Sony PSP Review: SOCOM U.S. Navy Seals Fireteam Bravo 2

Sneaking around jungles, factories and small villages is what a Navy Seal lives for. In the latest iteration of SOCOM, Zipper did an excellent job in capturing the spirit of the Navy Seals once again for the PSP.

Players are Sandman, who’s in charge of the Navy Seal’s Bravo Team. Since this is a parallel story with SOCOM: Combined Assault, Sandman meets up with Spectre, who’s in charge of Alpha Team.

Sandman’s mission is to take out a high terrorist threat in the Middle East. During the course of the game, players will be required to travel to different parts of the Middle East to find a terrorist. Players can take on the mission on four different difficulty levels. As a bonus, after players complete a mission, they can travel back to the mission area for some bonus missions.

With each completion of a level, players gain command equity (CE). With this CE, players can buy new weapons for single-player mode or buy new outfits for the characters. The new outfits are for online characters, which are either Seals or Terrorists.

Game play is like any other SOCOM game. Players sneak around killing and restraining terrorists, defusing bombs and doing other actions to stop the terrorist threat. Since the PSP does not include a second analog nub, SOCOM includes target locking, which does not take away from the single-player experience.

Fireteam Bravo 2 naturally shines with its online game play. While online players can create clans and buddy lists and engage in ranked games to improve overall rank. There are plenty of people to challenge and conquer while playing online.

Just like in single-player mode, characters can target lock online. However, by no means does it make online any easier as it does not mean there is no recoil on the guns. Nevertheless, target locking does not correspond to sniping.

For the PSP, Fireteam Bravo 2 has pretty impressive graphics. The explosions look realistic and while in a firefight, gamers might feel like they are actually there. Plus, with the awesome ambient noises, it really does feel like bombs are dropping all over the place.

In conclusion, SOCOM U.S. Navy Seals Fireteam Bravo 2 is a well-rounded PSP game online and off. Those with wireless Internet should definitely buy Fireteam Bravo 2 for its intense online play.

SOCOM U.S. Navy Seals Fireteam Bravo 2 is rated T (Teen) by the ESRB for Drug Reference, Violence.
