PSP Review: Metal Gear Solid - Portable Ops - Page 2

The controls are really simple. It is based on the Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence engine. So for all of you that loved the 3D camera angles in Subsistence, you’ll really love this game. The aiming is just the way any Metal Gear fan would have wanted it to be for the PSP. The game has a few camera angle problems, but that shouldn’t stop you from slaughtering or capturing the opponent. Happy hunting!

If anyone gets bored of hunting the computer over and over again, and has a WiFi hotspot near them that doesn’t require a password to use, they can try Metal Gear Online. One of the major components of Portable Ops is its online play. You can use your own Units that you form in the Single Player Mode to fight online. There are two types of online. There's Real Time Mode (Cyber-Survival), in which your team members are gone for good if they die; and there is Virtual Combat Mode in which once your teammate dies, he/she waits until their next turn. Anybody who doesn’t have WiFi but has friends that also have Portable Ops can use the Free Versus Mode (where you can freely participate in versus battles — you can play even if you don’t have your own squad) and then there is Game Sharing Mode (where you can let other lucky PSP owners download the game partially to their PSP for multiplayer purposes only).

Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops is a very intriguing game and should be required playing for all serious Metal Gear fans. There is a ton of information that you will learn in this game that will completely shock you, from learning the true identity of the Patriots, to the interconnectivity between this storyline and that of Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots. Prepare to be stunned and amazed at this masterpiece that was created by the legend himself, Hideo Kojima.

Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops is rated M (Mature) by the ESRB for Animated Blood, Suggestive Themes, Violence.
