The horror genre has taken on many different forms over the years. In fact, this genre has pretty much done it all, and has chopped up plenty of corpses in as many convincing ways as possible along the way.
With that said, many critics have termed the latest wave of popular horror films as "horror porn," seemingly because of its lack of artistic value and its pseudo-sexual elements. Movies like Saw and Hostel may have a psychological edge that gives these movies some clout, but it's fair to say that the central premise of these "horror porn" films is to find new and gruesome ways to torture and kill human beings, all in a light and entertaining way of course.
Manhunt 2 takes some of the more shocking elements of the "horror porn" concept and puts you at the controls, and whether you want to or not, you get to do all of the fun killing. Throughout the game, you must perform executions with broken shards of glass, old needles, and even plastic bags. And of course, there is plenty of torture and sexual acts going on around you, and the only way to escape it all is to kill kill kill.
The game follows Daniel Lamb as he escapes from a mental institution/research facility, and along the way, he starts to piece together his life from the fragments of memory and clues he's left along the way. As he hunts for the clues, he finds a few surprises along the way and learns that there is more to the story than he once knew.
Danny's journey begins, appropriately enough, as he escapes the mental institution during a freak power outage that pits prisoners against guards. Once Danny is free, you must help him find his way around the remnants of the city he once called home, and Danny discovers that a sinister presence called "the project" have taken over. The story line of Manhunt 2 is not all that exciting; in fact, the story line seems no different from many other games in its genre. Manhunt 2 has all of the same sex and violence of other Rockstar Games titles, like the Grand Theft Auto series, just with a different exterior.
However, the game play is quite good, and whether you are a casual or experienced gamer, there is plenty of new stuff here. One of the most interesting things about Manhunt 2 is the way "executions" are handled, and along the way, you are expected to execute several of your key opponents in creative ways. Manhunt 2 goes beyond the usual first-person shooter games and makes you use your logic and creativity skills to kill your opponents. You also utilize many different varieties of weapons, leaving behind some interesting corpses as you advance through the levels.
