PS3 Reviews: Exclusive Launch Games - Page 5

The muddy, low quality graphics do not fit the shine of the new PS3. The game play is awkward and stiff. The frame rate also dips frequently, noticeable first during the training mission.

This is all really heartbreaking, because playing with giant robots is about the coolest thing you can do in a video game.

Melee and gun combat is horribly unbalanced, to the point that you should just stick to your laser sword.

The game has some fine concepts, but they never materialize fully. Upgrading mobile suits is the loan enjoyable part here, but you are sent on mission after mission of see target, destroy target - there is no variety.

This is the least next-gen game the PS3 has, as it fails both graphically and play wise.

Mobile Suit Gundam: Crossfire is rated T (Teen) by the ESRB for Fantasy Violence, Mild Language.

Blast Factor — Though the game is getting labeled as a Geometry Wars clone, it exhibits more Mutant Storm Reloaded traits.

But beyond similarities, Blast Factor is a challenging dual-analog shooter. The game has two game play mechanics that set it apart.

First, you use the tilt sensor in the SIXAXIS Controller to slosh the water either left or right, moving your enemies away from you. One enemy even has to be flipped on its back, making this movement part of game play, not just an evasive maneuver.

Tilting the controller left or right performs the action on screen; when you get into an intense game, it feels natural and not tacked on. And this game gets intense, especially past the fourth stage.

Hitting either of the triggers initiates a repulsion move, which is infinite, you just have to wait a short period for it to recharge. Performing this move can get you out of sticky situation unscathed, and mastery is a must.

The graphics are silky smooth, and as you are in an aquatic environment, the water effects look great. If you can support it, you get 1080p visuals, with a big of added detail.

The explosions are deafening, especially when you clear an entire stage (it has that destroy the Deathstar type moment when you clear each stage).
