The only downside Supernova has is in the multiplayer department. Considering that the Xbox 360 version had play over Xbox Live, I expected to be able to play 2P Battle over the PlayStation Network. This is not an option however, one can only play 2P Batter with local people on your couch. Adding salt to the wound, there is no vs. CPU option, either. This is a small oversight when you look at the entire $15 package, but the online multiplayer and CPU multiplayer do extend the life of Lumines quite a bit, no matter the platform. At the end of the day, having online rankings does not fill the void of online play.
If you are a long time Lumines fan, you will see many of the same skins (or stages) that you quite possibly have played two or three times already. "Oh yeah, that one" happens a lot, but the new PS3 skins are great to play. Some overwhelm the senses like only a Mizuguchi-san game can. If you are looking to unlock the LittleBigPlanet skin, start in the Advanced Challenge Mode.
Trophy hunters out there will find a well-balanced assortment available, from completing mission mode or unlocking all skins to scoring 210 points in Time Attack 180 sec. The best part about Lumines is that once you unlock everything, you will keep coming back for more — that is why we are still playing this four-year-old puzzle masterpiece.
Lumines Supernova is rated E (Everyone) by the ESRB.
