Graphically, Tenkaichi 2 serves up the best cell-shaded graphics the Playstation 2 has brought to the table. The characters and environments are spot-on with the style of the anime and the characters and environments suffer noticeable damage through the course of battle. The menus and interface are chock full of Dragon Ball characters and bring fans of the series a top-notch presentation that is sure to please.
Furthermore, the title is filled to the brim with dialogue recorded from the original cast members – both English and Japanese. While all of the other sounds in the game sound like they were merely ported over from other versions of the game, the new bits of voice acting go well with the story and the new scripting for the “what if” scenarios is a bundle of fan service for anyone who has watched the series.
Overall, Tenkaichi 2 is a great package for anime and fighting game fans alike. The game explodes with content and should keep anyone occupied for quite some time. How many other fighting games can claim 120 characters on one shiny disc?
While most anime brawlers leave much to be desired, Dragon Ball Z once again stands at the head of the pack with tightly controlled 3-D movement, second-to-none presentation, lighting-fast battles and over-the-top super moves.
Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 2 is rated "T" for Teen by the ESRB for Cartoon Violence. This game can also be found on: Wii.
