Pre-Play Impressions: Super Smash Bros. Brawl

Yes, you read that correctly. Here at Blogcritics we aim to bring you something unique, something you won't find on other sites. With that in mind, here are my pre-play impressions of Super Smash Bros. Brawl, or SSBB as all the cool kids call it.

I have Brawl sitting here. Yep, I have had it all day. I haven't even taken the cellophane off yet. This may be hard to believe, but I picked the game up in the middle of the day and went right back to work for the entire day.

I am not a fan of the Smash Bros. series really. Heck, I haven't played more than 20 minutes of Melee. It just isn't my style of game.

So why would I go out of my way to procure of copy of this coveted game a few days before it hits the street? Well, do I really have a choice? I already bought No More Heroes. What else am I going to buy for my Wii this year? My Horse and Me? Maybe Agatha Christie: And Then There Were None? Nope.

Possibly a retro game on the Virtual Console? If I buy one more Virtual Console game I am going to need to swap a bunch of them on a SD card because the non-removable, non-upgradeable internal memory of the Wii is so small. I really don't feel like a SD card swap-a-thon today. I can't tell you how excited I am when WiiWare comes out in the States.

Seriously, what games have come out this year beyond No More Heroes and SSBB are worth mentioning for the Wii? And for that matter, what game(s) other than Mario Kart Wii are worth another precious breath? I have played Okami and I will likely pick up Castle of Shikigami III just so I don't have to import it. But the Shikigami series really doesn't fit your average Wii owner. I am willing to bet that most reading this have never even heard of Castle of Shikigami III, (buy it if you like shoot 'em ups) so it really doesn't count.

Wii Fit comes out in May. I think I will pass. Until they release more than one game for the balance board, I am not that interested. Thanks but no thanks, Nintendo. Samba de Amigo is scheduled for August. I still have my maracas around here somewhere, because I played the game eight years ago.

Animal Crossing doesn't even have a date for the Wii. Is Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Crystal Bearers even coming this year? What about Sadness? I don't know about you, but I am quite sad to not have heard more concrete details about that game.

Dude, you suck. Now I'm gonna pull out my GameCube just to play some late-night Melee by myself.

Wow, five minutes of my life wasted reading this... You spend 3/4 of the article babbling about lack of other wii games, when you finally talk about brawl you just bag the online (you can do random matches too, ya know) and then complain about yourself downloading too many vc games. btw, you CAN, i hear, delete them and redownload when you want, free of charge. You've got ssbb before the rest of us who actually want it, just to look at your refection on the case and bag the crap out of it WITHOUT PLAYING IT

MUA HA HA HA. Glad you liked it.

This article really wasn't about SSBB, btw.

And yes, I did play it, quite a bit actually, even online.

That was dang crappy. If you don't like it why don't you give it to someone who actually wants it? Brawl is going to be a great game and just because there are a few minor inconviences (which apparently are the worst things in the world now) let you say the whole game sucked. Maybe it doesn't have voice chat and the Friend Codes should be shorter but that doesn't mean that the whole game sucked (did you even try multiplayer or do you not have enough friends for that?). Jeeze... give me a break. It's not a bad thing to own a Wii. At least it's better then the Xbox 360 and the PS3 which are basically copies of the Xbox and PS2.

You my friend... should jump in a lake.

Well be sure to tune into our show on Tuesday at 9:30 (see the main Gaming page) when I will be ripping this game apart.

Is this a review of SSBB or Shikigami III

This is an op-ed. Not a review. If you mean the radio show, this week's episode is all about SSBB and the Wii.
