PlayStation Network Update: 11/13/2008

Part of: PlayStation Network Updates

I am sorry Sony, perhaps you misunderstood me last week when I said we like to buy things. We do appreciate the new game, Age of Booty. It's not my cup of tea, but many people were looking forward to it.

It is also nice to see the new Pain level, Movie Studio Lot, and of course the Hoff. These are good things, these are nice things. Not so nice is the truckload of pay for cheats for Need for Speed Undercover. After market tires for two dollars? Really?

When I heard there would be LittleBigPlanet DLC I was excited, until I saw that individual costumes were quite expensive. I will only pay $1.99 for a Motorstorm outfit if it came with a quality Motorstorm level. Yes the others are cheap at 99 cents, but word to the wise—more people will buy outfits if they have a themed level attached. Frankly if there was a great MGS4 level that launched with the Old Snake Sackboy I would pay two to three dollars for that.

Continuing the march of greed we have a Star Wars: The Force Unleashed costume pack; no new gameplay here, just outfits...sigh. There is a pay for use Sid Meier’s Civilization Revolution Multiplayer Map Pack, as well as a free one. Surprisingly there is also a free LBP costume as well as native commentary tracks from many countries for FIFA 09, all free except for the second English one.

This week sees two great music packs from both major rhythm games. Rock Band delivers us the Foo Fighters: The Colour and the Shape album and Guitar Hero: World Tour features some Hendrix and REM tracks to enjoy.

On the multimedia front we have videos for Alpha Protocol, Guitar Hero World Tour, Soul Calibur IV and WWE Smackdown vs RAW 2009. On the Blu-ray front there are trailers for Wall-E and Chronicles of Narnia Prince Caspian.

Size isn't everything, they say, and this week's PSN update proves that. There are many, many items released this week, but only one or two of them are worthwhile. Hopefully we will see better DLC next week (SSFIITHD Remix if we are lucky). Deets are below.
