All us Sony fanatics should be rocking out with Rock Band 2, but the money holders at Microsoft have seen to it that we do not get it until October. We will try to survive with what we have on the PSN this week.
Not mentioned on the update is the fact that Life with PlayStation went live today. In order to use it, you need to launch Folding @ Home. Life with PlayStation replaces the old Folding @ Home environment and gives you both services in a pretty package. Life features a real-time globe showing day/night and weather cycles as well as images and news from the cities you choose to view. Pretty spiffy stuff, and it runs the folding process while you are viewing the Life world. Of course, you can also play your own music as you surf around.
This week, we have the Call of Duty 4 price promotion for the Variety Map Pack (now $4.99) in preparation for the double XP weekend for CoD 4. A perfect time to grab the pack if you haven't done so yet. We have the requisite Rock Band updates featuring the new Megadeth Album, minus the title track as it is in RB 2, as well as some assorted low priced songs.
On the demo front, there is a demo for the puzzle game meets first-person shooter Fracture. I am looking forward to trying this demo. There is also a demo for Mercenaries 2; I am playing through the game now and I encourage everyone to try the demo, as destruction is so much fun in this game.
Finally, on the multimedia front, we have some videos looking at NBA 09, Valkyria Chronicles and EA Sports. No themes or wallpapers this week; is that a first?
Overall, a decent week with some demos, promotions, music and of course Life with PlayStation. It would have been nice to have something to buy in the form of a full game, but Wipeout HD is next week so I will save my pennies for that!
Price Promotion
Call of Duty 4 Map Pack One-Week Price Promotion @ $4.99 (from 9/18/ - 9/25)
Note from Infinity Ward: We're kicking off a full week of promotions for Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare this week, starting on Thursday, Sept. 18 at 2pm (PT). We'll kick it off by dropping the price of the #1 add-on DLC on PSN, the Variety Map Pack, to the price of $4.99 all week long. Four new maps - Creek, Broadcast, Killhouse, and Chinatown - will be great new locations to rank up when we switch on the Double XP this weekend. Some of the IW crew will be jumping on Friday between Noon-4pm (PT) to rank up and take on any open challenges from the community. Be sure to add our PSN IDs and drop us an invite if you see us online.
