PlayStation Network Update: 08/06/2009

Part of: PlayStation Network Updates

Welcome to this week's PSN update. The big update this week in my opinion is the Batman: Arkham Asylum demo. This is a game that I have looked forward to for a long time. The game seems to be a fairly generic if solid brawler, but since the art design makes great use of the license, it is a winner in my books. The edgier look at the characters and style make me very excited to try (and probably buy) the game.

There are some games to buy. Crystal Defenders is a Final Fantasy-themed tower defense game originally found on the iPhone. The other is TV Show King. I don’t know what this is; no press, no information, no demo and a $10 price tag … good luck with that.

Demos are plentiful, with some old and new to enjoy. Joining the aforementioned Batman: Arkham Asylum demo, we have a demo for the Crystal Defenders game, one for the long released Rag Doll Kung Fu (which was free in the states; does it need a demo?) and a PSN version of Worms.

As has been the norm, we have a virtual boatload of add-on content for either free or severely overpriced. On the expensive side, we have the third Call of Duty: World at War map pack at $10, a Savage Moon expansion at $5 and yet another single Tiger Woods course for $5.

Frankly, all of these pricing models (especially the map pack) are ridiculous. I do appreciate the mix of free and low-priced Cross Edge add-ons as well as the continued support for Dynasty Warriors. There is also an inFamous costume pack for LittleBigPlanet, and even though it is inexpensive ($1), I still dislike seeing these limited releases.

Of course we have the obligatory Rock Band and Guitar Hero tracks every week, but it is also nice that we have PSP content coming faster and faster. This week, there is the full Dynasty Warriors game as well as a number of free add-ons to the, err, Hannah Montana ‘game’. Of course we also have a number of videos and this month's Qore, which I am sure will be amazing, as in boring.
