PlayStation Network Update: 04/23/2008

Part of: PlayStation Network Updates

Great Googly Moogly, this is what I am talking about! This is a huge and appreciated update and a good sign for us fans. First we see a PSOne game which is greatly appreciated; seeing as it is the solid R-Types I am sure many people will be downloading this.

On the Add-ON front we have a big list featuring the Variety Map Pack for CoD4; seeing as this has been downloaded over a million times on the 'other' console I am sure this will be a hit as well on the PSN. We also have the Biolith Rebellion 2 expansion pack for The Eye of Judgement; remember, you also need to buy the cards from this series as well. Finally there is the Army of Two DLC adding to the multiplayer mayhem.

On the musical front we have the first Rock Band album, "Screaming for Vengeance", available as a full or per song download. We have the Def Leppard pack for Guitar Hero featuring a new song not released in stores or online yet. Finally there are 42 more songs for Karaoke Revolution Presents: American Idol Encore for you to sing/warble/yodel to!

Phew... need to take a breath! We are not done yet. On the demo front we have both a PS3 and PSP version of the game echochrome in demo format. This is a really unique puzzler that needs to be played to be believed. We also see the Iron Man game demo appearing on the PSN for your enjoyment; it is a fun demo and worth a download.

On the media front we have a slew of game videos looking at all things related to Iron Man, Gran Turismo 5 prologue, Prototype, Army of Two, Resistance 2 and FIFA 08. We also see a number of videos looking at Coachella and Wyclef Jean's "Fast Car" video. On the Blu-ray/movie front we have trailers for The Water Horse and 88 Minutes for our viewing pleasure.

Finally we have a really good Eye of Judgement theme and a number of REALLY slick Gran Turismo 5 Prologue wallpapers (all free of course!)

This is a truly great and meaty update. Aside from the pricing disparities if you live across the border, I give this a hearty, double thumbs up and I hope Sony keeps it up! More details on the content below as per S.O.P.

In R-TYPE, your job is to play through 8 stages destroying monsters to save the world from doom. In R-TYPE II, journey to ancient ruins, dark caverns, into the crimson sky, and onto a Bydo star. It’s up to you to save a galaxy riddled by fear and cowardice.
