PlayStation Network Update: 04/17/2008

Part of: PlayStation Network Updates

The anticipated update after two weeks off the air is here and it is as huge as expected. Not only do we have the newly revamped PlayStation Store, we have the addition of DTS-HD Master Audio decoding for Blu-Ray playback and tons of downloads to enjoy.

First and foremost is the highly anticipated Gran Turismo 5 Prologue (see our review) available for download via the PSN today. Would have liked to see it slightly less expensive then the retail disc due to the cost savings they will enjoy, but the price is as expected. The other downloadable game is the Metal Gear Online Beta which is only available for select people who pre-ordered Metal Gear Solid 4 or won a code online. The Beta is available now but you cannot play until Monday April 21st.

On the Add-on front we have three weeks worth of Rock Band songs already seen on the other console. We also see the new Warhawk Operation Broken Mirror add-on as well as a Warhawk Booster Combo which contains both add-ons for the game.

There is a curiously small in file size add-on called Super Stardust HD Solo which adds a number of features to the original game despite the small download size. Lastly we have the amazing and FREE add-on Lair - Dragons and Control Pack which adds two dragons and the MUCH requested analog controls to the game.

There is a huge amount of game videos and movie trailers to enjoy as well as some themes to enhance your XMB. Lastly for you soccer fans we have a demo for UEFA EURO 2008 to get your footy on with!

Deets on all the downloads are below. I can only hope that Sony continues their momentum and keeps giving us quality updates on the PSN. This year we can expect a ton of features and content and I cannot wait!

277 kb for the SSHD add-on? So I just spent $5 for a key that unlocks something that is already in the game. Great. Sorta smells like EA.

Great update this week though. I am going to pop in LAIR later and see how the analogue controls work.
