The Playstation 3 looks to expand their catalog this holiday season with a particularly large cache of action titles (all release dates subject to change).
The multi-console release of NBA Live 08 seeks basketball court supremacy with new internationally expanded and “floor spotting” features while NBA 08 competes with customized role-playing and play calling expansions.
College basketball titles include NCAA March Madness 08, coming out a week before Christmas Day, and College Hoops 2K8, releasing on November 5. Other sports titles include FIFA Soccer 08 (Oct. 16), WWE SmackDown! Vs. Raw 2008 (Nov. 13) and the continuously customizable Tony Hawk’s Proving Ground (Oct. 15).
Racing titles include Juiced 2: Hot Import Nights (Oct. 8), SEGA Rally Revo (Oct. 9) and Need for Speed ProStreet (Oct. 30), which features high detail and a solid online competitive mode. Cars Mater-National offers some animated auto racing on October 23 while MX vs. ATV Untamed provides some off road fun on December 17.
Action is plentiful with series continuation titles like Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare (Nov. 5), which features an online experience points system. The adventure title Folklore (Oct. 9), created by Kouji Okada (Shin Megami Tensei series), features seven different worlds. Other titles include Bladestorm: The Hundred Years’ War (Nov. 6) and Rocketmen: Axis of Evil (Oct. 11), which features four player cooperative play.
Looking for parody filled action with a constant sense of humor? – check out The Simpsons Game on October 30. The Golden Compass (Dec. 4) features exploration adventures as the young Lyra rescues her friend. Other movie adaptations include Conan (Oct. 23), Ratatouille (Oct. 23), LEGO Star Wars: The Complete Saga (Nov. 6) and Beowulf (Nov. 13) following conquests of the power hungry Norse warrior.
Bladestorm: The Hundred Years War (Nov. 6) mixes historical characters like Joan of Arc into large scale battle stories. On October 23, check out action titles Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction and Clive Barker’s Jericho.
