Since Shadowrun is all about the joys of multiplayer (and only multiplayer), it’d be foolish to do a review and not talk about it’s surprisingly lag free net-play. Multiplayer on the PC feels just like you’re playing on Xbox Live (Most of the time you actually are) and when you do finally cross over into multi-platform play things get even more interesting.
FASA has done an outstanding job balencing Shadowrun and there’s no finer example of their hard work than when you take out some snot nosed punk who’s bragging about the joys of keyboard with your sweaty, over use and nearly broke in half 360 Controller. If you’re playing the PC version with a keyboard and mouse, it handles like a keyboard and mouse should, but if you play with the Xbox 360 Controller for Windows, it actually feels like you’re playing with a proper controller, not a mouse that’s just been awkwardly mapped to the right analog stick in hopes that it actually works.
Honestly, reviewing Shadowrun is one of the harder reviews I’ve had to do. I’ve never encountered a game that was so well balanced and refined, yet so light on content that it’s left me of two minds on the subject. If reviewing on just the gameplay it’s a perfect 5/5, but if we’re talking value for money it’s a lot closer to a 1/5. Everything depends on your perception of just want makes a game worth $60. So I’m going to take the easy way out and say Ying counters Yang and what we’re left with is a big pile of "meh."
Shadowrun is rated M (Mature) by the ESRB for Blood and Intense Violence. This game is also available on Xbox 360
