PC Game Review: Rage: The Scorchers DLC

Rage had a bit of an iffy start when it first came out and for many gamers the title is a bit tainted. However, if you are one of those who has long forgotten the launch debacle and fancy a return to the wasteland, this might be your DLC.  Many will be pleased to be returning to "Hagar" country, the starting area of the original game.

The DLC sees the return of ID's favorite weapon (after the shotgun), the nail-gun. It has three types of ammo and looks good, but it is not really anything special compared to the rest of weapons to be had. Still ,in a pinch it can come in quite handy.

There is a new bunch of mutants to battle with, the Scorchers. As you might have guessed, they are keen on fire. They even have themselves a nice, heavily armed airship to make your life more difficult. There is also a puzzle or two to keep you thinking as you tackle the riotous rabble aiming to take over the wasteland.

There is other stuff to discover, as well as an uber-hard mode called "Ultra-Nightmare."  The goal of all this, naturally, is to have game play additions that aim to the extend the game past the original end-game.

Oh yes, and you get a love interest upon completing the DLC as you end up moving in with her as a reward for beating the baddies.

The question is, of course, is whether or not it is worth the money. The main bit of the additional content that gives the DLC its name is not actually too long as a scenario. In fact I was able to run through it in an evening with little trouble. Probably only Rage fans will want to pick this up right away while the rest might want to wait for inevitable Steam sale inclusion.

Rage:  The Scorchers is rated M (Mature) by the ESRB for Blood & Gore, Strong Language, Intense Violence. This game can also be found on: PS3 and Xbox 360.

Realise this reply is late, but if you are already in the last area of the game just finish the game. The DLC includes being able to continue playing after the last mission.

I can't believe no one seems to know about this: after a couple missions in Subwaytown go down into the Resistance Base (under the garage area) you can ride the airship back to Wellspring.
