And the Wii remote controls? Well, they try to simulate the actual violent acts they correspond with, but they fall short. Your actions are mimicked with the actual fighting system, but when it comes to special kills, there’s just nothing special about them in this game. The controls themselves don’t always feel natural to the movements the character is doing, and for me, that’s a problem. I know the Wii remote and nunchuk doesn’t give you complete control, but the kill movements could have been better.
The only good use coming from the Wii remote involves a mini-game when you’re standing in the shadows and a Hunter comes to investigate. You actually have to hold the Wii remote still so that the Hunter doesn’t notice anything and moves on. If there’s one single thing that can be pulled from Manhunt 2 and used in any future Wii titles with stealth game play, it’s this feature and this feature alone.
The levels are pretty straightforward, but there is the problem that you seem to be faster than your enemies, and thus, can outrun them and just get right to the end of the level. The levels themselves also suffer from uninspired design, so don’t expect anything miraculous here.
As for the graphics? The world of Manhunt 2 is apparently dark 24/7/365, and looks like a PS2 game from 2004. If this game isn’t running on the Grand Theft Auto III engine, then I’ll be surprised, because it certainly seems that way. The graphics are blocky, the motions sometimes choppy, and there are plenty of jaggies to go around.
But back to the game’s darkness level. Everything in the world is in shades of black and brown, apparently, which often makes it hard to see things in the environment on normal TV Brightness. And if that’s not bad enough, that’s not the suggested level of brightness that your TV should be at, according to Rockstar. If I followed their recommendations, I might as well play this game blindfolded in a dark room with the TV turned off.
