Nintendo Wii Review: Just Dance 3

Part of: Kiddie Corner

We are all huge fans of the Just Dance series of games by Ubisoft. Dance games are a fantastic way to have fun, enjoy music, and lose weight all at the same time. There are six Just Dance games available with Just Dance 3 being the latest release. Like most dance type games, the goal is to dance along with the figures on the screen and match your movements and rhythm as closely as possible to theirs.

There are over 40 songs on Just Dance 3. I was thrilled to see that a number of my favorite artists were included such as Cee Lo Green ("Forget You"), Nelly Furtado ("Promiscuous"), and Katy Perry ("California Gurls"). There are also a few songs that I'm not sure fit really well in the song list including Donna Summer's "I Feel Love" and Queen's "Crazy Little Thing Called Love." Still the blast from the past id fun although I did enjoy the newer songs much more. I have no idea why they chose to include some of the songs they picked. I think the game would have been even more attractive had it included more top hits, but maybe they were trying to reach a larger target audience of people who actually remember listening to people like Donna Summer.

The game does beep out the inappropriate words which is sort of odd, but definitely appreciated considering the target audience is 10+.  You can also download new songs from a catalogue of new tracks online for an extra charge on some versions of the game.

There are two basic options with Just Dance 3. You can choose Dance! or Just Sweat.  In the Dance mode, you simply dance along with the person on the screen. The Wii remote will sense your movements and will compare them with professional dancers to give you a score. They also take into consideration the amount of energy you put into your dancing. Some moves are worth more than others and are called Gold Moves. When you do a Gold Move correctly, you get a lot more points. You can now have up to four concurrent dance routines with different moves for each player. The game also includes the Classic Mode, Duet Mode, Medley, and Simon Says Mode like in previous versions.

Just Dance 3 is a great way to have fun with friends while also being active. Trust me, even if you are doing it on your own, it does not feel like a boring exercise routine.

Only one comment 'ditch' the 'Lazy' rating in Just Dance 3, when you're learning, you arent being lazy. Off putting. Zero out of 10 for that

I am getting so much out of it, the only cardio I actually enjoy doing! And for old fogies such as myself :-) it's great that they included older songs as well.
