MIGS 09: Ken Rolston, Lead Designer Big Huge Games Liveblog

Part of: Montreal International Games Summit

Montreal has become the largest center for video game development in Canada, and approaches the largest in North America. Many major studios like EA, Ubisoft, Bioware and Eidos have a large presence there, but there are also many smaller, but still important, studios based in that city.

Companies like Artificial Mind and Movement, and Autodesk all bring a pool of talent, fresh ideas, and technology to the video game landscape that has made Montreal a video game Mecca in Canada.

Recognizing the importance of the industry within Montreal, the developer- and design-themed Montreal International Games Summit was formed and has thrived. These summits are working conferences with pivotal members from the game industry providing seminars, panels and round table sessions.

Every year the summit has been a tremendous success with the industry collaborating, sharing information and bringing knowledge and prominence to the active community in Montreal within the gaming world.

This Liveblog will be covering the discussion by Ken Rolston, Lead Game Designer from Big Huge Games.  Mr. Rolston will be discussing the Narrative Designers Toolkit. The Liveblog will begin at 10:15 AM on Tuesday November 17th.

Rolston moved to Big Huge Games from Bethesda, where he was lead designer for the wildly successful and critically claimed Morrowind and Oblivion. Previously Rolston served as roleplaying director for West End Games, Games Workshop, and Avalon Hill Game Company.  With those companies he was as an award-winning designer of paper-and-pencil roleplaying games, including games and supplements for Paranoia, RuneQuest, Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay, AD&D, D&D, Star Wars, Ghostbusters, Stormbringer, and many others.

Rolston brings a wealth of design experience to the table and his thought process and design toolkit will be presented to us and covered in this Liveblog.
