Midway Announces Wii Projects and Details Mortal Kombat Armageddon Limited Premium Editions

Within the past two days, Midway, through its official site, has shed some light on upcoming projects for the Nintendo Wii.

The company announced it has plans to produce both a re-make of Rampage: Total Destruction and Mortal Kombat: Armageddon on the Wii platform. An announcement yesterday by Midway also detailed plans for the Limited Premium Editions of Armageddon, scheduled to ship to store shelves on Oct. 9.

Based as a port-over of the same game released in April, Rampage: Total Destruction will aim to hit stores this winter and will include additional bonus features on the new platform.

The list of characters in Total Destruction will raise from 30 to 40, which means 10 brand new creatures will be set free on the Wii for massive destruction. The new monsters are promised to feature their own individual super moves and unique combo attacks. Updated graphics are also noted as a key feature exclusive to the Wii version.

Midway further supported the Wii on its website stating that Armageddon will hit the next-gen system sometime in first quarter 2007.

The releases notes that both games are still in development under the company's Chicago studio, and more details will be released later this year. So far, there is no note of how either game will take advantage of the Wii's unique controller or if any online modes will be available.

For the Playstation 2, four Limited Premium Edition packages of Mortal Kombat: Armageddon are planned, all crammed with bonus features. Each package will feature a duo of famous Mortal Kombat characters including Sindel and Shao Kahn, Johnny Cage and Goro and Kano and Sonya. The fourth box art will feature the standard Mortal Kombat: Armageddon logo on shiny, metallic packaging.

However, the bigger news, much like the Deception Limited Premium Editions, is in what's inside the package — an arcade-perfect port of Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3, a bonus DVD containing nearly an hour of features, and an animation cell cover art autographed by co-creator Ed Boon.

Strangely, the release heading suggests among the bonuses on the premium package is a "new character," but nothing seems to be listed amidst the release to that regard.

The premium versions of Armageddon will retail for $49.95.
