Mac Game Review: Pile & Pop

Ever have a hankering for a game that is not too complicated, but is involving enough to keep you interested more than a few seconds? Are you looking for something that is rather good but not rather taxing? Pile & Pop is just this sort of game.

Its rather simple: little jellybeans of different colours pile up and your try to pick the top ones up to get four or more together so they pop. You can either do a time-decaying game where the jellybeans rise on a timer or a more strategic one where each move causes more to be added.

The only additional goodies are lightning (that takes out a row), a bomb that takes a few out or jellybeans that are "wild". There are other features you earn including earthquake, air bombing and time stop.

The game is so simple a small child could play but not so daft that an adult won't enjoy playing it. There are three skill levels and trophies for doing extra special things like wiping out the whole screen. It even has a function where it saves where you left off when you quit for you office work. Expect yourself to do the "just one more game" shuffle with this compellingly addictive game.

The game runs well on my iMac duo-core and looks lovely on the screen. Sounds are not terribly tedious and neither is the music.

In short: this is a simple and fun game that will provide amusement when you want it. A demo is available; the game is also available for PC.
