Well known gaming company Gameloft has recently thrown their hat in the ring developing physical game controllers to be used with the iPhone, iPod, and iPad. Their newly released controller is called Duo Gamer and retails for $79.99. Although this controller may not be needed by everyone, the true hardcore gamers will definitely appreciate the new controller and enjoy it the most — the lack of a physical controller regularly being touted as a problem for touchscreen devices.
Gameloft partnered with Discovery Bay Games to
produce a this controller and, as stated, most serious iOS game lovers will agree with me when I say ported console games need more control than virtual-type game controls can offer. More advanced games such as Modern Combat 3 will be better enjoyed with a physical game control. However, this doesn’t mean we need to eliminate the virtual game controls — I just can’t see the necessity of having physical game controls for titles such as Angry Birds or Doodle Jump.
Games such as N.O.V.A. 3 and MC3 are games which need more advanced methods of controlling available. The Duo Gamer features two analog joysticks, a d-pad, two triggers, and four buttons for an overall better gaming experience.
Unfortunately, at this time the Duo Gamer controller may only be used with the following Gameloft titles, Asphalt 7: Heat, Order and Chaos Online, and N.O.V.A 3. Modern Combat 3: Fallen Nation and Brothers In Arms 2: Global Front are listed as titles which will allow Duo Gamer control soon. Not having these two titles games, or any others, will be one of the biggest obstacles Gameloft faces in attempting to market and sell the Duo Gamer. The Duo Gamer works flawlessly with the few compatible titles it has, however many consumers will not be able to justify the $79.99 price for use on three titles now and the promise of more down the line. Still, if one of the available titles is your favorite, I think you will definitely enjoy using the Duo Gamer.
