Not content with just being a Marvel Ultimate Alliance cameo, Ghost Rider is wheeling into the video game scene alongside his upcoming theatrical release from Sony Pictures.
Set on the foundation of the Marvel comic book that put Ghost Rider on the map in 1972, game developer Climax is offering up combat and motorcycle action for the Playstation 2, Sony PSP and Game Boy Advance. Comic writers Garth Ennis and Jimmy Palmiotti have been onboard with Climax in order to pen the game's storyline in which Johnny Blaze – the Ghost Rider (well, to those who follow the series, the first Ghost Rider) – is destined to haunt the highways of the United States to inflict much punishment on the souls of the wicked.
Unfortunately for the denizens of evil, Ghost Rider has more than just a fiery visage to his credit. The game will pit players in fast-paced, combo-based combat designed to allow Ghost Rider to duke it out against multiple enemies. The hellfire chain and hellfire shotgun (the hero's trademark weaponry) will be put to full use in game play and players will be able upgrade the weapons as well as gain new moves and stat increases through the course of the game.
Players will be able to take advantage of Rider's superhuman strength, speed and durability as they battle through various locales such as the Caretaker's Graveyard and even the sky scraper that links Earth to hell. One more trick is up the highway hero's sleeve, however, as the "Penance Stare" marks his truly unique ability. By utilizing this skill, Ghost Rider can inflict a level of emotional pain on criminals that equals the suffering they have caused to innocent people.
Climax is no stranger to motorcycles as they also developed the MotoGP series, so it's no surprise that Ghost Rider's trademark ride will play a crucial role in the game. Not only is the hero himself super powered but his trusty motorcycle, the Hell Cycle, will be put to use many times in the game. The Hell Cycle can also be upgraded while players progress through the game as its powers including riding on water, boosting for jumps and more will be put to use as Ghost Rider fends off enemies using his chain.
