Gear Review: GC Skins

I've always been interested in game console skins, but I've never used one before. Thanks to gcskins.com sending me some free review samples, I have finally had the joy of putting a skin on my gaming console... but it wasn't exactly what I was expecting.

Firstly, these "skins" are actually stickers. I thought they were thin layers of rubber. Second, they come in different styles that remind me a lot of wrapping paper. Finally, I noticed all of the skins I got were not fitting well.

Because these skins are stickers you may have a bit of struggling while putting them on. That means they'll stick to your fingers. You will also have to take the stickers on and off if you don't align the console with the skin one the first try.

I don't care for some of the designs of the skins. The chrome ones, for example, leave fingerprints. I personally don't like the selection of PSP skins. I guess it really depends on your taste in designs.

As I said before, some skins look like wrapping paper. The red chrome one that I got for my slim PS2 looks like something you'd use to wrap a present up for Christmas. Some skins would appeal to little kids. Really, who likes flames anymore? The chrome skins and the plain skin I got look very cheap. It looks like someone indeed did get some wrapping paper and turn it into a sticker, and then slapped a sticker that says "GC Skins" on it.

All of the skins aren't ugly though. This skin I love, and am currently using it on my PS2. The bright blue colors look fine on my PS2.

When I did get the PSP skin on, I thought it looked cool - until I saw that it doesn't fit on my system. As you can see by this picture, I have a very dirty PSP. You'll also notice that the skin doesn't fit. All of them are like this. The sticker won't stick on the top rim of the PSP. You can also notice on the bottom left corner that the skin is already coming off. The sticker won’t stick on the edges of my handheld, so I have no choice but to leave it be. My PS2 skin was the same way, except the skin didn't fit on the bottom of the system. I’m not sure about you, but I really don’t care if the bottom doesn’t, especially because no one can see it unless they lift my PS2 up. To make sure I did get my skin on correctly, I used multiple skins on the same console. Still, no go. They were all the same: too small and unfitting.
