Catching up from a hectic work week and preparing for the upcoming East Coast Gaming Expo, here is some video game news bits from the past week:
Midway casts a champ in Romanowski
Bill Romanowski, a four-time Super Bowl champion, will join the gritty crew of Blitz: The League when the million-selling game is repackaged to hit the Xbox 360 and Sony PSP later this year.
Romanowski is set to be cast alongside hall of famer Lawrence Taylor as co-cover athlete and just like Taylor, will be featured as an in-game voice and personality. He will play a role in the game’s story both on and off the field as Bruno Batagglia, a much-hated linebacker for the fictional Baltimore Bearcats.
The 360 version of the title is slated to ship in October with the PSP version to follow in November.
Activision recruiting soldiers for upcoming show
Activision is calling for would-be soldiers for a reality television event that will be hitting the airwaves later this year on Spike TV.
Slated to be filmed at a top-secret military location from Sept. 20-22, the “Game Head Call of Duty 3 Challenge” will feature the upcoming war title as well as real-life boot camp challenges. Those interested will need to submit a personal movie no more than five minutes explaining why they should be chosen.
Sixteen finalists will be chosen for the competition that will net the grand prize winner VIP access to Spike TV’s Video Game Awards, a home entertainment system from Best Buy and a tip to France.
The challenge will be aired on Spike TV’s Game Head on Nov. 10.
Unlimited goes gold
Atari not only recently announced the development of Test Drive Unlimited is complete but also the game has already achieved gold status.
Developed for the Xbox 360, Unlimited will provide free-roaming open online racing with the price tag of $39.99 when it hits shelves on September 6.
The second demo for Test Drive Unlimited is available now for download on the Xbox 360 Live Marketplace. While the E3 demo servers are now down, the new demo has its own server with more cars, bikes and longer time limit.
Konami announces portable titles
Konami announced a few details on an upcoming portable version of Silent Hill and a sequel to Lost in Blue.
Silent Hill Origins for the PSP will feature an all-new over-the-shoulder perspective when it hits stores in 2007.
Lost in Blue 2 introduces two new characters deserted on an island as players use carpentry and culinary skills to stay alive. The touch screen and microphone will be used once again as players explore the new territory that is now their home. No release date is currently set for the title.
