Sega announces classic compilation, new Manager title
Playstation 2 and PSP gamers will be able to relive some moments from Sega’s 16-bit black box, as it yesterday announced an all-new compilation – Sega Genesis Collection.
While only Altered Beast, Sonic the Hedgehog, Shinobi III and Phantasy Star have been announced, Sega promised the titles would match the originals as much as possible. Currently, there is no word as to if Sonic the Hedgehog refers to strictly the first title of many Sonics for the Genesis and the same holds true to Phantasy Star.
A total of 30 games are planned for the collection and through the course of play unlockables such as original developer interviews and a virtual Sega museum. The PSP version will of course have wireless multiplayer features. While it is not 100 percent clarified in the release, it seems the wireless will be local only.
A second title Sega shed light on recently is the most current version of its ongoing NHL Hockey Manger simulator.
NHL: Eastside Hockey Manager 2007, developed by Sports Interactive for the PC and Macintosh, will be available Sept. 22 via digital download.
CEA exploring gaming event possibility
The Consumer Electronics Association, known by gamers for its annual Consumer Electronics Show, announced it is forming to committee to explore the possibility of hosting a 2007 event on the west coast.
"Since ESA decided to eliminate the E3 event in its known format, we have been deluged with inquiries on whether we could fill the tradeshow needs of smaller video entertainment companies," said Gary Shapiro, president and CEO of CEA. "Our executive board met yesterday and unanimously asked staff to explore ways that we can help the gaming community."
CES was the nation’s largest gaming show until the formation of E3 in 1994 and hosts about 2,700 member companies and exhibitors. A new event through the organization would be focused on gaming and the entertainment marketplace.
"We enjoy creating new marketing opportunities for this category. With the growth in on-line PC gaming and the rush to HD gaming, we see an opportunity to create a fresh event aimed at this market. We already have commitments from three companies in this area to provide us advice on a new event in late spring 2007," said Karen Chupka, senior vice president of events and conferences.
Chupka also added upon receiving feedback if the desire is there, the organization would begin seeking venues in Las Vegas and Los Angeles.
