Mouse controls are tight, however playing the game with a touch pad is a real pain and it would have been nice if the game supported keyboard controls for laptop players, or people who just aren't good with a mouse. [Read Full Review]

Sudoku Works
Writer: Anna Creech

In the past year, I have become a puzzle fanatic, and the folks at Oak Systems aren't doing much to help me overcome my addiction. If anything, they've gone and made it worse by releasing Sudoku Works 3.

This little game has a clean and helpful interface; nearly all of the components like color scheme and sounds are customizable, or at least given an on/off toggle.

There are nine different grid types, ranging from 4x4 to 16x16, with five levels of difficulty. Players also have the option of playing with letters instead of numbers. In addition, you can create your own puzzles. This is handy if you become addicted to computer Sudoku but still want to play the puzzles that are in your newspaper or other print source.

One of the techniques of Sudoku solving is to pencil in the squares the possible numbers that could fill them. It saves time spent on the game and you don't have to keep track of them in your head. I rarely do this with Sudoku on paper, but it's so easy to do (right-click instead of left-click) in Sudoku Works 3 that I found myself relying on it more and more on the difficult puzzles.

My one complaint is that every game is timed, whether I want it to be or not. I'm more interested in completing the puzzle than I am on doing it quickly, but other players might enjoy the timed component.
