Days until Guitar Hero II release: Nine.
Nine more days until players will be able to get their hot little hands on Guitar Hero II. That gives us nine days to give you the detailed lowdown on what RedOctane will be unleashing November 7.
I've been collecting random thoughts while playing the preview version we have available to us and what good would they be if I didn't share them?
Song of the moment: Who Was In My Room Last Night? by Butthole Surfers
1993 – Independent Worm Saloon from Capitol Records
Length – 4:09
What you’re up against: Who Was In My Room Last Night? features a lot of repetition but is a fast-moving song that can give players a lot of practice hitting chords as well as the triple chords featured in Guitar Hero II.
Playing on hard or expert will immediately subject players to a triple chord of green plus yellow plus blue. The expert difficulty adds a few more strokes of the triple chord than hard does, but both difficulties go immediately into a really long hold using the same button combination.
The good news for players is these intro chords are all star power notes – the hold is long enough to where, if you hit all the notes consecutively and use the whammy through the hold, you should be kicking off the song with a full bar of star power.
Every verse in the song has the same notes on both hard and expert difficulties. Following the beginning hold, you’ll have to hit green followed by a small flurry of green plus yellows and then quickly hit a string of red, yellow, red that loops straight back into the green and green plus yellow. This will be repeated for what seems like forever.
The chorus feature a number of quick chord slides and holds followed by stringed patterns of red, yellow, blue, orange, blue, yellow, and back to red. The hard difficulty will give you quick pauses between the strings, but expert doesn’t give you that luxury. Instead, it features a blue to yellow alternation that will keep your fingers moving into the song’s solos.

Songs I would love to see on the list for Guitar Hero III: "Three Days" by Jane's Addiction, the Plimsouls classic, "A Million Miles Away", "Police Story" by Black Flag, and Catherine Wheel's song, "Black Metallic"... oh, and Rush's "2112 Overture", as well.
