1 Million Wi-Fi Users For Nintendo
Nintendo has announced that their wireless service has hit an all-time gaming record of 1 million unique users, in less than four months of operation. “Players are embracing our model of a compelling, safe, easy-to-use wireless gaming service,” says Reggie Fils-Aime, Nintendo of America’s Executive Vice President of Sales & Marketing.” Those 1 million users represent more than 27 million game sessions.” Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection lets Nintendo DS owners log on cost-free to compete or interact in a variety of games, from racing in Mario Kart DS to community-building in Animal Crossing: Wild World.

[ADBLOCKHERE]The 1 millionth user was a player in Japan, who logged on to play Animal Crossing: Wild World. To draw even more Wi-Fi players, on March 20th, Tetris DS will be released. Tetris DS brings a twist to the addictive classic puzzle game. Up to four players can compete against friends or strangers, near or far. Tetris DS features multiple modes themed with retro Nintendo characters and music. In addition to Tetris DS, Metroid Prime: Hunters will feature competition using Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection, but players get an added bonus: the ability to chat with one another before and after battles, using VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol). Players can use this Metroid chat feature to agree on match parameters and to relive their battle glories. This riveting first-person shooter lets players choose from a variety of characters and weapons, with extensive replay options.

Microsoft’s 5,000th Patent
Microsoft’s 5,000th patent will claims that an online spectator mode will be implemented into future Xbox 360 titles. This spectator mode will allow gamers, not involved in the gameplay, to view highlights and instant replays. There will also be the option to control the camera perspectives while watching a game being played. Microsoft left a statement saying “A portal such as a Web site to access spectator-related services such as schedules and information on multiple games and events as well as the number of spectators and participants in each. The portal allows the spectator to find the most popular games to watch, preview the action, and then connect to the desired game or event.”

Guitar Hero Sequels
Kelly Sumner, RedOctane CEO, has confirmed to UK Trade Magazine that there is a Guitar Hero sequel in the works. In fact, there are many sequels ahead. “We are working on Guitar Hero 2, which will have 40-plus new tracks,” Sumner said. There will also be expansions to the Guitar Hero game, featuring country and heavy metal music. Sumner also says that there will be at least five or six other Guitar Hero games by mid summer of 2007. Sumner has also announced that there may be a stand alone Guitar Hero game, not requiring a PS2.
