Free Ice Cream and Books for Kids

There is no downside to this story – how often can you say that? Okay I guess there is obesity and someone could be injured by a book dropped off a high building, but that’s about it:

Now in its 4th year, Free Scoop Night is our way of saying THANK YOU to our loyal customers who have supported Baskin-Robbins for more than 55 years. Visit one of our participating stores on Wednesday, April 30, 2003, from 6 to 10 p.m. and get a FREE 2.5 oz scoop of ice cream. Choose from any available flavor.

    United States and Canada
For every scoop given away, Baskin-Robbins will make a donation to First Book to provide new books to children from low-income families. To date, Baskin-Robbins has supported the distribution of more than half a million books to children throughout the United States and parts of Canada. Try X-Treme Berry Sherbet or Oreo® X-Mint, two of the new flavors inspired by Twentieth Century Fox’s new movie X2: X-Men United opening May 2 in theaters nationwide.

For every scoop given away, Baskin-Robbins will make a donation to First Book to provide new books for underprivileged children. Based on numerous studies, book “ownership” has consistently proven to be a catalyst in increasing literacy rates, especially among young readers.

First Book is a national nonprofit organization that provides children from low-income families with their first new books. In neighborhoods across the country, First Book Local Advisory Boards unite leaders from all sectors of the community to provide books to children in literacy programs, after-school programs, and other community-based efforts reaching children living at or below the poverty line. With strong support from Baskin-Robbins, in the last two years alone, First Book has provided almost 15 million new books to children in need in hundreds of communities nationwide.

To learn more about First Book or to make a donation, please visit www.firstbook.org or call First Book toll free at 1-866-READ-NOW.

Get thee to a Baskin-Robbins tonight, unless you don’t like ice cream or kids
