Warsaw: June 22,2012
In the first quarterfinal played last night, Captain Ronaldo’s header leaded Portugal in the 2012 Euro Cup semi finals. Portugal defeated Czech Republic 1-0.
Ronaldo scored the goal in 79th minute of the match. He headed home a cross from Joao Moutinho. This was his third goal in 2 straight matches. In the last match against the Netherlands, it was Ronaldo’s double which leaded Portugal into the quarter finals. Ronaldo dedicated the double to his son, who is also named ‘Christiano’. Also the amazing fact was Ronaldo’s son was celebrating his second birthday the same day when his ‘Papa’ scored the double against the Dutch!
In the semi-final match Portugal will now face the winner between Spain and France in the third quarterfinals on 23rd June in Donetsk, and Spain is the defending champion of Euro Cup.

Ronaldo had an opportunity to strike in 25th minute, but the Czech goal keeper blocked the attack successfully. Ronaldo missed similar opportunities in 32nd, 35th, and 49th minute of the match. But finally Ronaldo got his chance and scored for Portugal with 11 minutes left.
Earlier the Czechs entered the quarterfinals by leading group-A. Czech Republic was the first team in Euro cup history to win a group with a negative goal difference. The Czechs lost their first match 1-4 to Russia but managed to qualify by defeating Greece 2-1 and Poland 1-0.
