The second DLC for Call of Duty: Black Ops has today been officially announced following last week’s leak by GAME Australia. TitledEscalation, the pack is set to be released on 3 May 2011 for XBox 360 and will follow at a later date for PlayStation 3 and PC thanks to a timed exclusivity deal between Microsoft and Activision.

Similar to the First Strike DLC, Escalation will feature four new multiplayer maps and one new Zombies instalment. Details of the multiplayer maps come courtesy of Major Nelson:

  • Convoy – provides intense close-quarters combat at the scene of an ambushed US military convoy.
  • Hotel – set on the roof of a Cuban luxury hotel and casino against the vivid backdrop of old Havana.
  • Stockpile – sees players do battle in a remote Russian farm town housing secret WMD facilities.
  • Zoo – brings warfare to an abandoned Soviet Russian Zoo.

Little is known about the new Zombies map, but it is believed to be called either “Survive” or “Call of the Dead” and feature new characters.

Although not yet confirmed, pricing is expected to be the same asFirst Strike: 1200MSP for XBox 360 and £11.49 ($15/€14.49) for PS3.

More details and trailers are sure to follow over the next few weeks.  As a teaser, here is a supposed load screen from the Call of DutyWiki for the Hotel map (this may or may not be the final load screen):

New releases are annual. In terms of DLC there is usually either two or three packs per title to keep it fresh. These have become much more expensive over the last two years though.
