Beautiful Criminal tells the story of Mima Etu and Gabriel Miller. She’s a native mountain woman living alone in the Canadian Rockies. He’s a pilot who carries illegal cargo and works for people you seriously don’t want to mess with. Their worlds collide when Gabriel’s plane comes down and is found by Mima and her best friend. Gabe is on the brink of death, and with the sun setting and temperature dropping, the girls’ only real option is to take him to Mima’s so she can nurse him back to health.
Gabe regains consciousness in a strange place, with a beautiful woman tending to his every need. He’s grateful to her, naturally, but he is also panicking about the cargo in his plane. It’s worth a fortune and if someone else finds it — or the bosses suspect that Gabe has double-crossed them — his life and Mima’s by default are at risk. As Gabe tries to make things right without involving Mima, the two of them become close, and eventually give in to their mutual passion. As they’re lost in one another, Gabe always has half a mind on the people he knows are certain to be on their way to find him. He knows he can’t just leave as Mima will almost certainly pay with her life, but if he stays, it can’t end well.
Can Gabriel decide on a course of action that will keep him and Mima safe? And if he does, will she allow him to stay with her and live the life he’s longed for since he arrived?
Beautiful Criminal is an excellent novella. The storyline is unique, the writing superb and the hero — despite his dodgy career choice — is totally swoon-worthy. The conflict in the characters is really well-written and believable, and I really found myself hoping for a happy ending for them. At the same time, I enjoyed the danger and action surrounding their love story. Not forgetting the hot sex scenes!
I would recommend this to anyone who enjoys a contemporary read with a sexy hero, lots of action and a fascinating setting.
