Tom and Jerry, the famous cat and mouse that everyone knows and remembers from childhood, is making some new friends among the younger generations. The staying power of some cartoons is amazing and Tom and Jerry is a perfect example of generational staying power.

Warner Brothers has put together a delightful two-disc collection containing the entire first season of Tom and Jerry Tales which hits streets April 13, 2010. What more perfect way to roll in the spring than with tons of laughter and giggles! This Tom and Jerry collection contains 13 episodes, three cartoons per episode, for a grand total of 39 cat-and-mouse, fur flying, tricks galore adventures.

Tom and Jerry is a cartoon that can be enjoyed by adults and children alike; thus making it a perfect nighttime cuddle time or family gathering time. I love watching my three-year-old son giggle away as Tom tries to capture Jerry, only to be outsmarted in the end. My seven-year-old daughter is also a huge Tom and Jerry lover, and actually has enjoyed them since she was around three, as well. It takes a certain degree of talent to be able to captivate an audience with very little to no verbal acting, such as is common with this particular cartoon duo.

My daughter mentioned the fact that they hardly ever speak in these cartoons, yet it does not deter from the enjoyment. I do have to admit that when my daughter was younger, I was concerned about the amount of violence in the Tom and Jerry cartoons (yes, I am one of those moms). However, thinking back to when I was a child and loved watching the club-beating and head-smacking that occurs so often throughout any given Tom and Jerry episode, I never really thought anything of it, nor did it make me want to go out and smack someone. Therefore, I decided to chill out and realize that there are much worse things out there to expose my children to and a little Tom and Jerry is a great way to just laugh away a stressful day.

Tom and Jerry Tales: The Complete First Season is a bit more of a contemporary spin on the original series, which aired from 1940 to 1958. Be aware, however, that this "newness" does not take away from the nostalgic feel of the original shorts. Along with Tom and Jerry, viewers are treated to the antics of such characters as Butch, the cat; Droopy, the unforgettable basset hound; Spike, the bulldog that despises cats, yet adores mice; Tyke the dog; Meathead, the alley cat bully; and Toodles Galore, the saucy cat who makes Tom's heart beat a bit quicker, to name just a few. Aired between 2006 – 2008, this DVD collection contains the shorts: "Tiger Cat/Feeding Time/Polar Peril," "Ho Ho Horrors/Doggone Hill Dog/Northern Light Fish Fight," "Way Off Broadway/Egg Beats/Cry Uncle," and many many more, in total 286 minutes of Tom and Jerry antics.

With Tom and Jerry Tales: The Complete First Season, viewers will be treated to magical dueling, deep sea fishing, musical numbers with silly singing, chases, plotting, tons of laughter and an all-around great time. My children and I both love this collection and will be watching the DVDs again and again. I fully recommend Tom and Jerry Tales: The Complete First Season for your DVD library, as I am sure it will become a family favorite!
