Growing up with Strawberry Shortcake, I adored her then as a little girl and was so pleased when they came back out with this line-up, so that I could share it with my little girl. I do have to admit that Strawberry Shortcake and her friends have undergone a bit of a makeover, however this does not bother me in the least. Of course she and the gang would have to have an updated look, to catch and hold the attention of little girls today. The 1970s it's not.
That being said, in the world of Bratz dolls, Moxie Girlz and the like, good old Strawberry Shortcake has a bit of work ahead of her. I think this new look is actually quite adorable and I love it. My seven-year-old daughter, though not as thrilled with these cute, scented figures as I once was, enjoyed watching The Strawberry Shortcake Movie: Sky's the Limit. I have to admit that it is not her favorite, however if she was a bit younger, that may be a different story.
Sky's the Limit is a great family-friendly movie about not giving up and keeping hope alive and well. When Berry Bitty City, the town where Strawberry and her friends live, runs out of water, it looks as though they are all going to have to pack up and leave. The merry, magical and mischievous little creatures, known as magical Berrykins, work and provide the town with sweetness, are worried that all of the berry plants will shrivel and die soon without water.
Strawberry Shortcake knows she must do something to save the town and everyone who lives there. Making the discovery that there is a boulder blocking the water supply to the town, the gang realize that if they moved the boulder, it would crush the town. Options are very limited and few and far between. When the town's storyteller Mr. Longface Caterpiller, lets the girls in on a secret magic stone, they all begin on an adventure that leads to, well, no where.
With a bit of hopelessness and sadness, Strawberry Shortcake's friends must find a way to bring back Strawberry's faith and together they will find a solution.
With sugar and spice and everything nice, this is a movie that will leave many little girls with a smile on their face, and perhaps many mothers, as they are able to reminisce a bit on their own childhood with Strawberry Shortcake
The Strawberry Shortcake Movie: The Sky's the Limit is a vivid, fun and sweet movie that little girls are sure to enjoy. With the lesson of friendship, hope and never giving up, this is a movie that parents can feel good about letting their little ones watch.
