Heartwarming stories of friendship that come in little blue friends.

DVD Review: The Smurfs – A Magical Smurf Adventure

The Smurfs: A Magical Smurf Adventure is a collection of “Smurf-erific” tales that will entertain children of all ages with stories of adventure and the values of friendship.

This two-DVD set has ten tales and special features with the loveable characters Grandpa Smurf, Smurfette, Brainy Smurf, Lazy Smurf, Handy Smurf and all the others.

These little blue buddies help children find ways to solve problems that life can put to you through kindness, friendship and doing the right thing. You will laugh and giggle as The Smurfs find that solving problems can be very interesting if you try to find the fast way out, and that being honest and true is the best of all.

Small in stature, but big in heart, The Smurfs find new adventures and friends around every corner and share the desire to spread happiness and joy to everyone they know, saving some for each new friend they make along the way. The Smurfs: A Magical Smurf Adventure is a selection of episodes from Hanna-Barbera’s Smurfs television series which aired from 1981 to 1989 all over the world and in several languages. As well as all the beloved characters and their friends, there are episodes where The Smurfs must defend themselves from their arch nemesis, the evil wizard Gargamel and his ill-tempered cat Azriel.

In the episode “The Magic Fountain”, you get to meet the Smurfs human friends Johan and Pee-wee, a young knight and his ever hungry and always eating squire. In this episode the Smurfs and their friends, while traveling come across a village where the people are being bullied and made to give everything they have to some very nasty characters. Johan and Pee-wee take up their cause and help the poor people to stand up for themselves against the bullies. I watched these episodes with my two daughters and it was magical to see them sitting there motionless as each episode played on and after the second disk was done, they wanted to watch them again.

Follow the adventures of The Smurfs and their friends through the other episodes like “Smurf Van Winkle”, where the Smurfs try to trick Lazy Smurf into doing all of their chores and it winds up backfiring in a very silly way. In “Revenge of The Smurfs”, during a fierce battle between two armies, the Smurf’s village is destroyed and Hefty Smurf decides he will do to the humans what the humans did to them, and the Smurfs soon find that jumping into a battle without thinking can lead to big trouble.

The special extra feature, Smurf Speak, shows kids how to speak like The Smurfs, which I admit is very fun, one of the best of the extra feature. My daughters are now walking around the house adding “Smurf” to every word, which is interesting and makes my wife laugh every time one of them says “That’s just Smurfy”.

This is a great collection of episodes that would be a fantastic addition to your video library and will bring back memories to original Smurf fans everywhere and make new Smurf fans out of today’s little ones everywhere. Presently, there are five more titles available are The Smurfs – Season One, Vol. On, The Smurfs Season 2, Vol. 2: Smurfy Tales, The Smurfs Season 2, Vol. 3: World of Wonders and The Smurfs Season 2, Vol. 1: True Blue Friends and more “Smurf-tastic” Seasons are in the works and soon to come.
