The last of the Hanna-Barbera Superstars 10 series is here. Enjoy.

DVD Review: Rockin’ With Judy Jetson

For those of you who remembered it and/or are at least vaguely interested about it, Warner Brothers has, at long last, released all of the Hanna-Barbera Superstars 10 specials –which originally graced television airwaves from 1987 to 1988 — on DVD. While some of these feature-length made-for-TV movies had been released onto home video via retail releases, a number of them only found their way to disc via the Warner Archive Collection — including the cosmic musical, Rockin’ With Judy Jetson.

As you can well imagine, Rockin’ With Judy Jetson is a spin-off from its parent (bad pun intended) franchise, The Jetsons. The story here — not that it matters much — focuses on the iconic futuristic family’s teenage daughter, voiced once again by the great Janet Waldo.

As is usually the case, Judy’s got it bad for the latest rock star. This time ‘round, said celebrity is Sky Rocker (the pain) and is dead-set on delivering him a song she wrote especially for him. Simple enough, I s’pose — except for the fact that there’s some evil space queen named Felonia Funk (Ruth Buzzi!) who utterly hates music so much, that she intends to wipe it out of existence (she, no doubt, had children who listened to Rebecca Black and Ke$ha). Naturally, Felonia switches Judy’s song with an evil message — shortly before kidnapping the famous Rocker himself.

Fortunately for Judy, her family — in particular her dad, George (George O’Hanlon), and her whiz kid baby brother Elroy (Daws Butler) — actually like Judy enough to help save her bacon in this enjoyable entry in the long-running Jetsons series (this was the next-to-last title before Jetsons: The Movie hit theaters two years later). Professional voice actors Penny Singleton, Mel Blanc, Charlie Adler, Peter Cullen and Don Messick also provide their famous cords to this one.

Rockin’ With Judy Jetson is presented in its original full frame TV aspect ratio (1.37:1) with Mono English sound. No subtitles or special features are included. But then, having the all of the Hanna-Barbera Superstars 10’s out is special enough.

Enjoy.
