Yes, that sweet, adorable, lovable, and slightly sassy girl, Carly is back and funnier than ever with her best buds Sam and Freddy. In season two, the gang is a bit more grown-up and facing a few of those teen issues such as first kisses and dating. Though they have matured just a bit, they still find themselves in some crazy binds and plenty of laugh induced predicaments.
With ten episodes and the iCarly first full-length movie, iGo to Japan, there is plenty to keep the attention of tweens and their parents. My seven-year-old daughter loves iCarly and she is over-the-moon with this collection of episodes. I have to admit that I truly do not mind watching them with her, so it’s a bit of fun together time for us. One of our favorite episodes is “iPie” where there is a scene with Freddy dressed up in a bear costume (he was hoping this would make the baby that his mom is babysitting laugh). He walks out of his apartment where Carly and Sam are talking. Sam has a baseball bat and shouts “Oh my god! A bear ate Freddy!” and then precedes to smack him repeatedly with the bat. Okay, I know that doesn’t sound very nice or something great for a kid to be watching, but frankly every time I see it, I burst out laughing, right along with my daughter. It’s not the violence, just the comedy of the entire scene.
The entire cast of iCarly is wildly talented and full of comedic ability. Carly (Miranda Cogrove), her brother Spencer (Jerry Trainor), best friends Sam (Jennette McCurdy) and Freddy (Nathan Kress) have an excellent chemistry that brings the show to life and makes it a pleasure to view. Each character has a different personality – Carly is sweet, Sam is the rebel, Freddy the smart one and Spencer the eccentric big brother/guardian. Each character brings a wonderful aspect to iCarly and makes it a great family show.
Nickelodeon has brought forth some fun and entertaining tween series the past couple of years and as a parent, I feel reassured that what my children are watching is not corrupting their minds or teaching them to go out and blow something up. Yes there are some wacky stunts and ornery mischief making, but it is all in innocent fun and not harmful. iCarly is a great lesson in friendship, togetherness and what a bit of hard work can do (the three friends work together putting on their web show iCarly, from which the series gets its name) There are real life issues that are addressed, such as the spats that friends get into, the whole first dating thing, being honest and truly appreciate the wonderful things and people that you have in your life. The biggest angle of iCarly is its humor and that is a great way for kids to unwind, not to mention a great way for the family to spend a bit of quiet time together.
For those who have not seen iCarly , you are in for a huge treat and for those who are already fans, these are some of the greatest episodes yet. This collection is especially great because it does include iGo to Japan. Centering around a huge award show, Carly and her friends travel (and not very comfortably, I might add) to Japan to compete for a web award. Spencer and Freddy’s mom, Mrs. Benson, travel with the kids to provide safety and adult supervision. It does not take long for them to become separated as Carly, Freddy and Sam are kidnapped by the competition for the award and Spencer and Mrs. Benson are tricked into a day of what they thought to be relaxation and massages. The kids use their wits to get away and non-too-easily make it to the awards show, finally. In addition to this movie and “iPie”, other episodes include: “iSaw Him First” (an extended version), “iStage an Intervention”, “iOwe You”, “iHurt Lewbert”, “iChristmas” (another favorite of mine), “iKiss”, “iGive Away a Car”, “iRocked the Vote”, and “iMeet Fred”. Also included are some great and entertaining behind-the-scenes extras and the making of iGo to Japan.
All in all, this collection of iCarly: Season 2, Volume 1 is a huge hit in our house, as I am sure it will be in many households across the country. New fans and old fans alike need to check it out!
