If you stayed home on Friday nights during the late ’70s through early ’90s to watch the antics of the Ewing clan, then you won’t want to miss out on Dallas: The Movie Collection. Made up of 4 made-for-TV movies, the DVD set includes of a series prequel and three reunions.

The wildly-popular primetime soap opera ran from 1978 to 1991 and followed the exploits of oil man J.R. Ewing and his wealthy Texas family. Dallas also starred Patrick Duffy as Bobby Ewing, Ken Kercheval as Cliff Barnes, Linda Gray as Sue Ellen Ewing, Steve Kanaly as Ray Krebbs, Victoria Principal as Pamela Barnes Ewing and Charlene Tilton as Lucy Ewing Cooper.

Dallas was such a pop culture phenomenon, that even those not watching were familiar with “who shot J.R.?” and Bobby’s “return to the life” a year after he dies because “it was all Pam’s dream.” J.R. was the man you loved to hate and he was surrounded by a popular and fascinating cast.
Dallas: The Movie Collection includes:
  • Dallas:The Early Years – This is the prequel that sets the stage for the drama to come. As a long time Dallas fan, it was fun to see how everything began, although strange to see other people in the roles.
  • Dallas: JR Returns – It resolves the cliffhanger of the series finale. Main characters are J.R. Bobby, Sue Ellen, Cliff. The plot revolves around ownership of Ewing Oil.
  • Dallas: The War of the Ewings - This movie begins with a play on Pam’s dream. It then continues on with more of J.R.’s schemes regarding ownership of Ewing Oil.
  • Dallas Reunion: Return to SouthFork – This was not a movie but a television special celebrating Dallas and its cast. Original cast members came together at South Fork in Texas to talk about their times together and reminisce. It also includes outtakes, bloopers and fan voted favorite Dallas cliffhangers. This was probably my favorite of the four, but I’m a sucker for reuinions.

  • I had a lot of fun remembering my old Dallas friends that I had spent years watching and seeing what they were up to after the regular series ended. You can find out more about Dallas: The Movie Collection, see clips and even puchase the set on the WB website.
