If you are in the Cleveland area, this is a super way to get in the Halloween mood: SynthCleveland presents the F.W. Murnau’s 1922 classic silent film Nosferatu, featuring a new live soundtrack on Wednesday, October 20 at 8pm, at Rain Nightclub, 4142 Lorain Avenue in Cleveland.
The new score will be performed by SynthCleveland members bands the scinema, Dust_Head, notech, Luigi-Bob Drake, Steven K. Smith and tofu.
Murnau changed the name and ghastly appearance of his villain Count Orloff, but this unauthorized version of Bram Stoker’s Dracula couldn’t fool the Stoker estate, and it became the center of a lawsuit that almost resulted in its demise. Thankfully, it survived, and as Pauline Kael remarked, “… this first important film of the vampire genre has more spectral atmosphere, more ingenuity, and more imaginative ghoulish ghastliness than any of its successors.”
The score will “orchestrated” by SynthCleveland member, and my old partner in Elliptical, Mike Crooker (aka tofu). Crooker also recently scored the music to the independent horror film Gloom, produced by area filmmakers First Cut Studios. There will be a special screening of Gloom held during the intermission of Nosferatu.
