It’s only been one week since David Cook became the newest winner of American Idol and he already has a record deal and is dominating the billboard charts. Currently Cook has an unprecedented seventeen songs on the Billboard Hot 200 charts. Eleven of those songs are in the Top 100, with four in the Top 40.

Cooks first single, “The Time Of My Life” has already sold $236,000 in downloads. The single landed at the #3 spot on the Hot 100 and #1 on the Hot Digital Songs charts, despite it’s later in the week Thursday release (new music generally is released on Tuesdays).

According to an official press release from RCA Records and 19 Entertainment, the sales make “The Time Of My Life” the best selling single since season 2 of American Idol. In addition to it’s chart topping success, “The Time Of My Life” has become the #1 most added Hot AC and AC radio track and the #2 most added on Top 40 radio. According to 19 Entertainment/RCA Records "Time Of My Life" has pulled in over 6 million new listeners without an official launch.

Billboard Magazine indicates that no other artist has had as many new singles on the charts at one time. The closest being Miley Cyrus with six in November of 2006. Cook has the most placements on the list since the Beatles "charted 14 songs the week of April 11, 1964."

Simon Fuller, creator of the popular TV series and chief executive and founder of 19 Entertainment Label Group, says "David Cook is a remarkable talent and is a worthy winner of American Idol. He has an astonishing voice, and is capable of truly memorable performances as he showed throughout the season. He's mature, well grounded and knows what he wants. It's this quiet determination that sets him apart from other singers; I honestly believe that David has the potential to go on to become one of the most successful Idols of all time".

Of his record deal, David Cook says "I am extremely happy to be signed by 19 Recordings / RCA Records. Signing this deal is truly a dream come true. I am looking forward to the recording process and creating a record. The support I have received from America has been overwhelming and I can't wait to hopefully do right by them."
