After a somewhat cryptic Twitter update from David Archuleta last week that said, “Decisions.. They are scary things before knowing what could happen after you make them, but I’m excited for what the future holds,” there was speculation that Archuleta had been let go by Jive Records.

On Februray 18, a Jive Records representative told The Hollywood Reporter that “David was released from our roster.”

Archuleta took to Twitter again this week to post a video to thank his fans and to explain the decisions that he is making for himself when it comes to his career.

In the video Archuleta said, “There were offers for me to continue working with [Jive], but it didn’t feel like the right thing now.”

Later in the video, he said that he had also parted ways with his management.

“I realized that this is not where I am need to be right now. This is not where I’m supposed to go, what I want to be doing right now, what I want to be focusing on,” he explained.

In the fall of 2008, he sold 183,000 copies of his self-titled debut
album in its first week out. The album debuted on the Billboard 200
in the number two slot.

To hear him in his own words, watch David Archuleta’s video update below.

David Archuleta’s “The Other Side of Down” is one of the best albums I’ve heard in ages … glad he’s broken free of Jive and will be writing new music, such an amazing talent and so refreshingly real and genuine.

Thank you for posting this article. I’m so glad David set the record straight. The media chose to spin it in a negative way for sensationalism, when it was actually David who did the walking. Hopefully all of the outlets will pick up on the truth now…I’m soooo so proud of David right now, and he’s got an eternal fan in me.

Thanks for the article. I’m glad to hear that David made the choice not to renew his recording contract with Jive. He needs to be working with a label that’s a better fit.

Thanks for the article but you need to correct the sales of his debut album. You have 183,000 and it is 783,000. More than a million if you include international sales.

Dave — My numbers are for first week sales. I will edit to specify that.

David is making some very wise decisions at this early juncture of his career..he has a strong fan base who is behind him all the way!I love everything he’s done so far & look forward to all that he has to share with us in the future!

So the truth comes out from the man himself: David got out of Jive and not the other way around. David deserves to be with a label who gets his musical genius, integrity and values and be willing to promote him well, especially for radio play. Well done, David! We’re excited for bigger and better things to come…’Love your album The Other Side of Down, it’s totally amazing!!!

He is so talented and brave to part ways with his label & Mgt.and move into another direction.

Listening to TOSOD now, you can kind of hear what he was going through. Still love his CD after many listens. Refreshing that he is just so classy in the vlog and didn’t talk badly about either Jive or WEG. He’s made some hard decisions, but seems so relieved and happy. Really looking forward to the great music to come.

David is just amazing. It’s why we love him so much…he takes time out of his day to let us fans know what is going on. We were worried when we heard about David not having a label & mgmt. It’s great that David is doing what he feels is right for him – going with his gut feeling. It sounds like he knows what he wants…and us loyal fans will always be here for him. I’m just happy he is continuing on with his musical career. His voice and talent are so unique — he is such a talented singer/songwriter — I hope we get to hear what he has been working on soon.
