Daughter from Danang
Documentary film gets Theatrical Release

“Quite simply one of the best and most profound documentaries I have
seen in year, splendid!” John Petrakis/Chicago Tribune

Winner – 2002 Sundance Grand Jury Prize for Best Documentary

In 1975, when the U.S. was pulling out of Vietnam, a 7-year-old girl was evacuated by Operation Baby Lift. After 22 years, she meets with her birth mother in Danang, but rather than a picture-perfect family reunion, cultures continue to clash and the wounds of war are revealed to be as long-lived as they are deep.

It is a powerful film. I saw it in the spring at the SF International Film Festival.

IndieWire has an interview with the filmmakers.

If it isn’t playing in a theater near you, it will be broadcast on the American Experience on PBS next year.
