I do have some reservations about President Obama. He is a brilliant speaker and handles media questions in a way that sets a precedent for future leaders. But what first tipped me off that something was amiss was his elevation of four star General Martin E. Dempsey to the position of Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. Barack might have missed hearing Dempsey’s rendition of “New York, New York,” or he may have attributed the song and dance to battle fatigue. But I was displeased, or maybe annoyed is a better word, to see the crowd pleasing general take the role.
We have never had a better class of soldier than we have now. College educated, larger than life, and possessing all the most modern armaments, they are a sight to behold. They unfortunately keep killing civilians.
American soldiers burn Korans and drape killed Afghans over their shoulders. They wear cameras on their helmets to photograph the killing. They go off halfcocked, drunk and stoned and shoot women and children to death; combat fatigue, who can blame them? As to indiscriminate killing of women, children, and innocent young men many fighting for a system of beliefs that differ from ours, the drone deaths are beginning to mount. It is politically savvy to compliment and praise the fighting men, so that’s what Obama does. He swears they are the best, none better. He overlooks a few unfortunate instances.
We watched the president and his staff as they monitored the death of bin Laden. At one point the public was told there were women and children in bin Laden’s bedroom. In the next moment, he was alone. At one point he was armed. At a later telling, there was a gun near the door, just a few steps away from the terrorist leader. The account changed from news broadcast to news broadcast. The word went out, “Bin Laden has been shot, and consistent with common procedure, his body was dumped at sea.” In truth that’s only factual when a death occurs at sea, with port distant, and no refrigeration. The body wasn’t taken to a military hospital, on land or aboard ship, just dumped at sea; no autopsy, no crucial identification. And lastly, there came no truth from the White House; just praise for the soldiers.
We all had high hopes that Barack Obama would take advantage of his multiethnic background to change the world for the better. But for reasons unknown, all the world changing went to Secretary Clinton, known in some circles as “That schoolgirl tourist.”
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu almost had a fit when she wanted to resolve the Israel/Palestine issue by returning to previously established borders. That didn’t work. As I mentioned, she took North Korea by storm and her husband had to fly at his own expense to correct the misunderstandings there. Clinton, still in charge of foreign affairs, with no presidential micro-management, gave millions to our former allies in Pakistan. As I see it, they simply took the money and ran. Then she gave them some more. In 2008, Pakistan was still an ally; now, under Obama, Pakistan is a threat.
Yes he was unable to move Congress in any direction, owing to an absolute Republican policy of obstructionism. Yes they are to be criticized far more than he. The years to come will clearly be a period of corporate dominance. Transparency and accountability, the big promises of 2008, are as opaque as wet mud. Yet, the Democratic insider trading scandals are something we clearly are not supposed to mention.
Obama is working closely with Russian Vladimir Putin, but their meetings are all very hush-hush. And in fact the military in Russia has considered preemptively striking a main thrust of the Obama foreign policy, the new and better missile shield, proposed for 2015.
Obama seemed to me to have a little birther in him, but people being roasted can say just about anything. And I really doubt all that Obama is gay stuff.
So as we see, there are some questions. A vote for Romney is a vote for corporate rule, a step beyond the direction of the Bush/Halliburton administration. And a vote for Barack Obama is a vote for Hillary Clinton!
