World's Smallest Hard Drive: 0.85 Inches

Toshiba created it, and Guinness World Records Tuesday certified it as the tiniest in the world. Awesome technical accomplishment. It holds 4 GB, coincidentally - or not? - the same as Apple's stunning new iPod mini.

For reference, consider that Toshiba's then-revolutionary 1.8 inch drive is what's inside Apple's iPods, including the new mini.

Toshiba says it will producing the new micro-drive by the end of this year.

Can you even begin to imagine what the next generation of cellcams, digital camcorders and cameras, music players, and video players will look like, now that the keystone of the devices has been reduced to something this tiny? [via engadget]
