World's Most Expensive Water - $33.50 For 2 Ounces

It's called Kona Nigari, comes from 2,000 feet down off the coast of Hawaii, and it's bottled by Hawaii Deep Marine.

Kona Nigari is a seawater mineral concentrate you mix with regular water. You can buy some at the Key of Life store in the Royal Hawaiian Shopping Center in Honolulu.

As always with expensive weird shit, the Japanese are driving the market. They can't drink it fast enough.

When's the next plane out? Gotta have this right now.

Don't I?

Said Steve Bretschneider, deputy director for the Department of Business, Economic Development and Tourism, quoted in today's USA Today story by Sean Hao, "The great thing is, we have plenty of it. We're not going to run out."

Hawaii Governor Linda Lingle decided to issue an official Hawaii deep-sea water certificate. The state will charge 3 cents a bottle to use a logo to distinguish Hawaiian seawater from Japanese-produced seawater.

So great. As if there's a wall between the two. Jeez, wonder what these people think of the concept of "mix 'n mingle?" Probably better not bring it up while they're riding their "wave."

Koyo USA's Ma Ha Lo brand seawater will be the first to carry the Hawaii logo.

Koyo's currently shipping 80,000 bottles a DAY to Japan.

The soaring, insatiable Japanese demand is based on a variety of health claims from bottlers, none of which have yet been [nor will they ever be, may I add] medically proved.

The water is high in minerals and believed free of modern contaminents. Gee, I could could say the same thing about my 1-A-Day vitamin tablet, but that would be dumb.

Wouldn't it?

Oh, yeah, in case you didn't do the math, I did: Kona Nigari will set you back a cool $2,144 a gallon.

Skol!

The best part, if I read this right, is that this isn't even just water they're paying $33 for, it's friggin' salt water. I guess that salt costs extra.

The second paragraph says that you take some of the sea water and add regular water to it. Is it just me or does this seem to negate the main benefit which is that it is free of modern contaminents found in everyday drinking water?
Does the bottle come with instructions? Just add water to the water and enjoy.

SEAWATER CONCENTRATE? I ain't paying no Goddamn $16.75@ Ounce for deep sea 'fish-fuck' water!!! The whole point of drinking bottled water is to put pure water in your belly!!!

In the film "KISS THE GIRLS" Morgan Freeman is told the world's best water is from (Guess Who?---JAPAN) called FUNICON. Supposedly they take Japanese fishing boats and haul back ice from the bluest glaciers. Is this Hollywood horseshit or for real? If real, how can I get some?

Oh, Lord! Spare us the fools. No wonder Nigerian Finance Ministers are alive and living well in Belgium - just the idea that anyone would give ten seconds credence to this is evidence that homeopaths have a long future ahead of them.

/agree with DrPat on this one

but then again..i laugh whenever i see someone paying a buck a bottle for Poland Spring water..

since it's what i shower in and flush...my well tapping the same aquifer

but i'm lucky like that..and i can understand the concern over clean , fresh water

it bloggles my mind that we are paying for water...as a youngster the tap water in every town was so clean that you thought nothing of drinking straight from a garden hose

of course..then there was cost cutting, and the municipal water treatment facilities were "downsized"...and bottled water hit the market

one of the best "scams" i have ever seen..too lazy to boil and bottle water yourself?..we'll charge you a buck a bottle!!

    dreck....

    Excelsior!

Actually, pure 018 water is the most expensive water in the world. It is mostly used for scientific research. It sells for a cool $27 a gram.
