It's not Twitter latte, Sandwich+, or Facebook Salad. Last July 16, the Social Media Potluck gathered 40 of Chicago's social media mavens and professionals.
When you think about it, a potluck is an ingenious idea to host industry influencers. Before humans had words for business ideas or social media, food was our common arbiter.
The Social Media Potluck's hostess, Catherine Merritt, founder of "The Chicago Foodie" blog and Chicago Public Relations and Marketing Network, knows how to host a summer party of which "The Internet" would sign up to be on the guest list. As a matter of fact, there was a waiting list.
The Chicago Public Relations and Marketing Network (CPMRN) is a group of 500+ public relations and marketing professionals in greater Chicago. Its members include public relations experts, journalists, restaurateurs, and entrepreneurs.
When asked what she meant by "Food for Thought," Catherine Merritt said, "I wanted to put the event together because often we're left to network in sterile, corporate settings. This event was about taking top-tiered people from our industry and transplanting them in the most comfortable and social setting of all, a backyard bash."

The Social Media Potluck overflowed with robust conversation and delicious food. Some of the dishes included potluck staples like penne pasta salad with the freshest basil, a lush gazpacho, delectable pizzas from Homemade Pizza Co., and wine from Hart Davis Hart Wine, both sponsors of the event. Dessert was not to be ignored either, with Riesling poached pear sorbet, Tiramisu, a fig and berries salad, cheesecakes to suit anyone's fancy, plus more treats with bacon, bourbon, and caramel.

Zaarly, another sponsor, was represented by Zaarly Chicago Dream Team Captain, Tim McDonald. Tim shared that to "Zaarly-it," consumers can get the goods, services, and experiences they want, when they want it. Zaarly is a business startup funded by Ashton Kutcher during Startup Weekend in LA a few months ago.
