Aspiring dancers lined up today to audition to be a part of Universal Studios Hollywood's annual Halloween Horror Nights. Halloween Horror Nights, during which the park turns into a giant haunted house, makes it debut this year on September 24th.
Go-go dancers are one of the Halloween Horror Nights traditions. This year, the people running Halloween Horror Nights were looking to cast people who can portray a vampire, since vampires are clearly hot right now. Dancers danced to techno-funk music. Over 75 young adults auditioned. They were split into same-gender groups of five. All the dancers auditioning performed the same dance, which they learned earlier from a "horror-grapher" (choreographer).
As it is every year, this year's Halloween event is different than the previous year. There are adding new mazes, including "Vampyre: Castle of the Undead" and "House of a 1000 Corpses," created by Rob Zombie. "House of a 1000 Corpses" is in 3-D. The Mexican and Latin American legend "La Llorona" will be incorporated into this year's event as well. Like last year, the Terror Tram, where guests can actually get off the tram and explore the backlot, will be running. The theme park's rides (Revenge of the Mummy — the Ride, Jurassic Park in the Dark, The Simpsons Ride, etc.) will remain open.
"We're expanding," John Murdy, creative director of Halloween Horror Nights, said. "We brought back Halloween Horror Nights in 2006 and every year, it's gotten a little bigger. In terms of attendance and fans, it's getting bigger and bigger. So this year, we're adding more content, more mazes and as designers, even though we've been very successful, we kind of treat it like none of the past exists. It's a brand new event. We're always trying to make it more extreme and more scary."
