Universal Studios Hollywood and Chiller's Film Contest

What is every filmmaker's dream? To be recognized. Well, Universal Studios Hollywood and Chiller, in celebration of this year's Halloween Horror Nights, are providing a start. Submit a short scary DVD and this prize can be yours: a broadcast of your short film on the network Chiller, 1,000 dollars and a trip for two to the opening night of Halloween Horror Nights (October 2nd) in Hollywood.

Then, the winner gets to be honored at Universal's Eyegore Awards, which is really cool. I went the last two years. All of these horror celebrities are there like Tobe Hooper (director of Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Poltergeist) and Corey Feldman (Lost Boys 2: The Tribe, Lost Boys, and the Friday the 13th films). Some studio executives attend. And since the press is there, it's an easy way to get more coverage.

Each film should ideally be from 90 seconds to three minutes. Judges will be looking for these important factors:
1. How well can you tell a story?
2. How original is it?
3. Did you give the audience a "good scare?"

The first round from now to August 21, 2009 is judged by horror industry veterans. The top ten films chosen by the veterans go to the second round from September 8 – 24. That's when the public votes here. The winning film will be announced September 25th.

Halloween Horror Nights is pretty amazing too. I've been the past two years and it's much better than any other Halloween attraction in Southern California. This year , they are going to feature the movie, Saw. There are mazes and, of course, the Terror Tram. I will definitely be going and I suggest you go too, because if it's anything like last year, you'd be crazy to miss it.

Good luck.
