What do Rob Zombie, Sheri Moon, and Corey Feldman have in common? They all attended the biggest awards "Scaremony" of the Halloween season. On October 5th, Universal opened their Halloween Horror Nights. To kick it off, Universal put together the "Eyegore" awards for the biggest stars in the horror genre. At 7 PM on October 5th, the press was invited to attend.
Stars attending included: Zombie, Moon, Feldman, Melora Hardin, Craig Robinson, Lucy Hale, Corbin Bernsen, Amanda Payes, Julie Pinson, Kristian Alfonso, Deidre Hall, Shawnee Smith, Don Mancini, Michael Berryman, Billy Warlock, Bob Guiney, and Rebecca Budig. Patricia Arquette was scheduled to attend, but got caught up on the set of Medium. Actor/Director/Producer/Writer Roger Corman also scheduled, but was caught in traffic, so he went home instead. Didn't make much sense to me, but the man is old, so okay.
The first winner of the Eyegore Award doubled as host--Michael Berryman. He has a lot of work: Brother's War, Outrage, Nightmare Carnival, The Pick-up, and the 1977 version of the The Hills Have Eyes. He seems like a very interesting guy. He made a speech about his opinion of one of the greatest horror devices: the ability to turn an innocent object evil (See crazy Chucky doll).
Roger Corman also won an award. Rob Zombie picked up a trophy for him (a creepy monster that all the stars said they will not keep it...). He told a story about Corman I found quite amusing. Apparently, he was working on the movie Rock and Roll High School, and he realized they needed more money. So, he actually charged the extras to be in the movie. Ha.
Patricia Arquette also won. She sent her husband to pick up. Not much else. They showed clips of Medium and the third Nightmare on Elm Street. It's a shame she couldn't attend. I was looking forward to seeing her.
