The first impression I got when I visited the Ubuntu website at http://www.ubuntulinux.org/ was that the developers and the community are totally committed to their project. The whole first page explains the groups vision and mission. One bold line jumped out at me "Ubuntu will always be free of charge, and there is no extra fee for the enterprise edition" - Ubuntu Site. I took a look at the screenshots and it looks to be a very nice OS. I haven't had the pleasure of trying it out yet, but I did order my free copies from the site. All you have to do is visit here: http://shipit.ubuntulinux.org/ . The greatest thing is that the discs and the shipping is free.

Great. More free software for the miniscule percentage of the population that doesn't use Windows...

No sense commenting about statements make by mindless morons!

I have Ubuntu loaded on my laptop. In fact all the software I use is Open Source and I didn't pay for any of it.
While saving money on software is a bonus, it's more important for me as a user to have options, to be able to make my own choices.
What is sad is that so many people don't know that there are alternatives.

I think it's great that some people choose to use Linux or Unix or Mac or whatever. Super.
But the vast majority of people still use Windows as their OS. So this is of little import to them.
I am sick of hearing about how great Linux is, and how shitty Windows is, and how Windows users are morons. That's a steamy pile of crap.
I've used Linux before, and it was not as user-friendly as Windows. Yes, it was vastly more stable. But not everyone is a tech-geek. So therefore Windows will continue to grab major market-share. And "Ubuntu" is therefore utterly useless to most of the public.

It is true, Linux is for the knowledgable computer user, but just think how life would be if Linux was the first operating system we learned to use. Once you have mastered the hard things everything else falls in place.
With linux professional is a keyword. Linux is for Business, Networking, power users, and other info sys and info tech areas.

Ubuntu is really great! I tried it on my notebook, and what should I say: it worked. it worked so good, like no other linux distro before. highly recommended. by the way: a good website for the beginner is the Ubuntu community.

I can tell you that I have switched from Windows because of Ubuntu...if you have half a brain and some commitment, you too can break the chains.
